WKT to GeoJSON Converter

Convert between WKT and GeoJSON and see the result on a map. Inputs without a geometry type are read as a Polygon, LineString or Point.

How it works

  1. Paste a WKT string or a GeoJSON feature. Bare coordinate lists work too: pick whether they are a Polygon, LineString or Point.
  2. The converted text appears beside it, ready to copy.
  3. The shape is drawn on the map so you can check it lands in the right place.

Questions

What is the difference between WKT and GeoJSON?

Both describe shapes such as points, lines and polygons. WKT (Well-Known Text) is a compact text format used by databases like PostGIS and by spreadsheets and exports. GeoJSON is a JSON format used by web maps and most mapping libraries. The coordinates are the same; only the wrapping differs.

Why is my shape in the wrong place?

Usually the coordinates are in the wrong order. WKT and GeoJSON both expect longitude first, then latitude. If your shape lands in the ocean, the source probably wrote latitude first.
