# Geotagged Photo Map

Last updated: 2026-10-18

See where each photo was taken on an interactive map. Read GPS coordinates and accuracy from the EXIF data and spot photos without a location.

Open the tool: https://restorationscope.com/tools/geo-photos (free, no account).

## How it works

1. Drag photos from your phone, camera or drone onto the map, or pick them from a folder.
2. Each photo with GPS data appears as a pin where it was taken, with its coordinates and accuracy.
3. Photos without a location are listed separately, so you can see which ones need fixing.

## Input and output

- Input: Photos in JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, HEIC or HEIF, as many as you like.
- Output: A pin on the map for each photo with a GPS position, showing its coordinates and accuracy, and a list of photos with no location.

## Example

Input:

```text
plot-1.jpg, with a GPS position in its EXIF data: 6°28'57"S 76°21'55.1"W, horizontal error 4 m
no-gps.jpg, with no GPS position
```

Output:

```text
plot-1.jpg: pin on the map at -6.482500, -76.365306 · Acc: ±4m
no-gps.jpg: No GPS data
```

## Limits

- It shows the location the camera saved in the photo. Messaging apps and social media often remove it when a photo is shared.
- Accuracy shows only when the camera saved it (the GPS horizontal positioning error); many cameras don't.
- Photos stay on the map only while the page is open; nothing is saved.

## Questions

### How do I see where a photo was taken?

Most phones and cameras save the GPS position inside each photo, in its EXIF data. Drop the photos on the Geotagged Photo Map and each one appears as a pin where it was taken, with its coordinates and GPS accuracy.

### Why does a photo have no location?

The camera didn't save one. Location tagging may be off in the camera settings, the phone may not have had a GPS fix yet, or an app or messaging service removed the EXIF data when the photo was shared.

### Can I check HEIC photos from an iPhone?

Yes. The map reads the GPS data from HEIC files too. If you need the photos as JPEG for another app, convert them with the HEIC to JPEG Converter.
