# Free field and GIS tools

Small tools for the everyday jobs of restoration field work: check a KML before it goes to Verra, test your phone's GPS, convert UTM to latitude and longitude, see where geotagged photos were taken, turn iPhone HEIC photos into JPEG, and convert map files between KML, KMZ, Shapefile, GeoJSON and WKT. Each one runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device.

## Registry checks

- [Geolocation File Checker for Verra Projects](https://restorationscope.com/tools/verra-geolocation-file-checker.md): Check a carbon project's KML, or polygons drawn on the map, against our reading of Verra's geolocation file requirements before submission: names, folders, attributes, coordinates and shape errors, with a rebuilt file to download. Independent; not made or endorsed by Verra.

## GPS and coordinates

- [GPS Accuracy Test](https://restorationscope.com/tools/gps.md): Check your phone's GPS accuracy in real time, watch how it changes over a few minutes, and know when it is precise enough to record field data.
- [UTM to Lat/Long Converter](https://restorationscope.com/tools/coordinates.md): Convert UTM coordinates to latitude and longitude and back, in decimal degrees, degrees-minutes-seconds or MGRS. Paste one point or a whole list, or click the map.

## Field photos

- [Geotagged Photo Map](https://restorationscope.com/tools/geo-photos.md): See where each photo was taken on an interactive map. Read GPS coordinates and accuracy from the EXIF data and spot photos without a location.
- [HEIC to JPEG Converter](https://restorationscope.com/tools/heic.md): Convert HEIC and HEIF photos from iPhones and other Apple devices to JPEG, in bulk, without uploading them anywhere.

## Map file converters

- [WKT to GeoJSON Converter](https://restorationscope.com/tools/wkt-to-geojson.md): Convert between WKT and GeoJSON and see the result on a map. Inputs without a geometry type are read as a Polygon, LineString or Point.
- [KML to Shapefile Converter](https://restorationscope.com/tools/kml-to-shapefile.md): Turn a KML file from Google Earth into a shapefile for QGIS or ArcGIS. Polygons, lines and points keep their names and attributes.
- [KMZ to Shapefile Converter](https://restorationscope.com/tools/kmz-to-shapefile.md): Turn a KMZ file into a shapefile for QGIS or ArcGIS. The KML inside the KMZ is read, and polygons, lines and points keep their attributes.
- [Shapefile to KML Converter](https://restorationscope.com/tools/shapefile-to-kml.md): Turn a shapefile into KML for Google Earth. Drop the zip or the .shp, .dbf and .prj files; common coordinate systems such as UTM are converted to latitude and longitude.
- [GeoJSON to KML Converter](https://restorationscope.com/tools/geojson-to-kml.md): Turn GeoJSON into KML for Google Earth. Every property is kept, and name and description show up on each placemark.
