Forest restoration will be carried out on rural properties located in the river basins of the Camanducaia and Peixe rivers in priority areas for water conservation, mainly for water supply.
Such properties are neighbouring areas in the restoration process or are close to forest fragments that will provide the increase and/or connectivity of native forests in the region.
Two hundred hectares of degraded areas will be restored, distributed around at least 50 springs, in addition to the banks of streams and rivers in the region. These springs supply other rural families and the local community and contribute to the properties' water supply.
Most areas registered for forest restoration are degraded areas (pasture), and no species of wild fauna are found. It has been observed that after a year of planting the seedlings, it is already possible to see several species of fauna revisiting and nesting in these environments, mainly bird species, such as hummingbirds, owls, well-being -vi, joão-de-arro and other animals such as hedgehogs, possums, crab-eating foxes and felines - recorded by photos, surveys and reports from the owners.
In addition to these benefits, an improvement in soil quality is also expected, since in areas undergoing restoration, after a year, the cover species already begin to shade the soil, flower, bear fruit and disperse their seeds, which accelerates the process. and repopulation of areas with plant species.
Forest restoration brings significant benefits to the community. Since its inception, with the collection of seeds, production and planting of seedlings and maintenance of the areas, more than 15 families will benefit directly from the restoration chain - people hired to carry out these activities.
Other direct beneficiaries are partner owners, their families and employees. At least 50 families living in the Camanducaia and Peixe river basins will benefit.
It is through this engagement and social mobilization that we get the support and participation of public bodies, through houses of agriculture, departments of agriculture and environment and municipal councils, where the employees of these bodies participate and contribute technically to the continuity and success of activities - strengthening public policy actions in the region.
