This project is restoring the buffer zone of Labanan Protected Forest which is rich in biodiversity, with special focus on Bawan Batu River therein. With the destruction of this area, wildlife has lost their habitat, and overpopulation has led to human-wildlife conflicts. This restoration will provide greater space for wildlife habitat, reduce the risk of landslides and floods, and improve water catchment areas. It is hoped that this project will help protect the biodiversity of the area, reduce the possibility of future floods in the 3 affected villages, and create a corridor to other protected forests.
The restoration of the Bawan Batu River is a multifaceted project, as it will benefit not only the local community, but also wildlife, tourism, and the environment. The project will restore the forest of the Bawan Batu River, which will improve water discharge, promote agroforestry, reduce human-wildlife conflict, and provide a potential source of ecotourism. This will restore the fertile soil of the agricultural areas, thus creating a long-term economic benefit for the community. Additionally, it will provide a source of feed for wildlife, and restore the karst hill area with trees that have local wisdom and historical value.
